The Robots Have Arrived (Spring, 2008)

Computer Science Students have had a variety of opportunities to work with robots in the past year. The department has introduced several robotics laboratories into its introductory computer science course. During these laboratories, students explore ways that computer software can be developed to control robots. As an outgrowth of these activities Computer Science majors Erin Donahue, Ashley Myers, and Malisa Vongskul have developed a robotics workshop that they presented for groups both at conferences and locally at DePauw. For example, in March of 2008 the students hosted the Cloverdale High School Science Club and helped the high school students explore robotics. The group was so pleased with their visit that they returned later in the year for a second workshop, this one on the topic of Global Information Systems.
