The Computer Science Linux Lab is located on the second floor of the
Julian Science and Mathematics Center in front of the Computer Science
suite.
There are twenty Linux Dell OptiPlex GX620 workstations.
Every workstation has dual core Intel processors, two Gigabytes of main memory and is connected to the campus network and the Internet with
a Gigabit ethernet connection.
Ten of the workstations have the x64 (64 bit)
version of Fedora Core 5 installed and ten of the workstations currently have Redhat Linux 9 installed until the end of the academic year.
There are also 2 Windows XP computers in the Linux lab available.
All the Linux workstations are connected to the CS Andrew File System
(AFS) where all the user accounts, volumes and shared volumes are stored.
All student logins for the AFS system and the Linux Lab are managed by the department's LDAP server. The Computer Science department also has a
Single System Image (SSI) computational cluster that can be used from the linux lab or any other workstation with X-windows or SSH software.
Our SSI cluster has twelve 3.6Ghz Intel Xeon processors, 36 Gigabytes of memory
and six Gigabit network cards that connect to the campus network and
the Internet.
Our SSI cluster is also parallel connected to our AFS system
that has total of 1.5 Terabytes of disk space.
